Afro jazz artist Bachot Muna might be known for his songwriting, but it’s his storytelling that lies at the heart of his music. Taking inspiration from his own life, or exploring folktales, such as his previous single ‘Mukonge the Frog’, Bachot Muna tells the story of love in his upcoming single ‘A Lili’. Staying true to his signature feel-good sound, ‘A Lili’ radiates joy and passion. “A Lili’ is the story of a man who has always had an idea of what love represents. For him, love is true, constant, selfless, real and deep,” says Bachot Muna, explaining the seed which planted the idea for the song. “It happens to each of us at any age to dream of this kind of love. A Lili is, therefore, a form of incantation of true love, pure love, sincere and deep love which endures everything and bears everything, supporting each other in any situation in life.” The tale delves into lyrical explorations, cleverly binding both lyrics and music. Bachot Muna’s inspiration for the track came from the Greek word ‘Agapi’ which means affection, love, tenderness and devotion in all aspect of life, while the word ‘éros’ resembles the love of the body, desire, romantic and sensual love. ‘A Lili’ strives to unite these two symbolisms. “Words have their meaning and knowing the meaning of the words gives depth and fullness when we pronounce them while being aware of their bearings,” Bachot Muna further explains. The production of ‘A Lili’ is just as fulfilling as the song concept, with playful piano melodies, rhythmic afro beats and vibrant brass instrumentation. Bachot Muna’s rich, distinctive voice leads the song, full of expression as the story unravels. The dynamic track is upbeat and bright, inviting listeners to tap their feet and fill their hearts with love. A musician since childhood, for Bachot Muna music has always been a companion. Teaching himself piano through innovative memorizing skills, Bachot Muna formed a band with his friends, before developing his skills as a sound engineer and producer. Now, based in Brussels, his career has been spirited; releasing albums, winning awards, and performing at shows such as the Montreal Jazz Festival. Bachot Muna fuses together his native rhythms with an array of genres to create Jazz Afro Fusion and connect with his audience through the language of music and storytelling
