James "Chamanyazi" Ngoma
James Ngoma was born on 16th September
James chamanyazi earned his stage name from his debut album Chamanyazi, which was released in 1994 while he was doing his secondary education at Kabulonga Boys Secondary School of Lusaka. His debut album became an instant hit on the Zambian music market, receiving massive airplays both on Television and Radio stations in the country, and had instant coverage on most of the print media
He emerged in a period where kalindula had died a natural death defeated by Congolese Rhumba,Hip-hop and R& B reigned supreme. It was a period where most of the upcoming artists wanted to sing Hip Hop and R& B, a period where it was impossible to hear any Zambian music in a jukebox or night club, worse not even one on the radio.
The brave few you could hear or see on tv were Victor Kachaka with " it is tulu" , Ballad Zulu with - woman of truth, Amayenge with aphiri and Sakala Brothers 'londole.
Chamanyazi became one of the few revolutionary artists who brought back Zambian music to be played on radio, tv and night clubs. For over Seven years , he won awards every year and was nominated in several categories.
Chamanyazi deliberately took to the traditional songs fusing with modern instruments to do his songs.
The birth of the MUVI Posse pushed him further with the song Dear lelo. Nkhwale was Chamanyazi's third hit from the MUVI Posse album - Most Wanted. The group played live concerts across the country in a campign to bring back Live Music.
A lot of Bands and artists would request to perform with the aggressive band to attract fans.
