Real Name: Balin Babiano Luka
Stage Name: Asheba
Date of Birth: 26th December 2001
Birthplace: Yambio, South Sudan
Genre: Afro Piano
Occupation: Singer, Songwriter, and Rapper
Born during the war in Yambio, South Sudan, Balin Babiano Luka grew up amidst conflict and loss. His mother raised him in the bush from birth until the age of five, protecting him through years of struggle and survival. His father, captured by soldiers, was long presumed dead until he miraculously returned when Balin was six years old.
At the age of eight, Balin came to Uganda as a refugee, losing contact with his family for many years. Life in exile shaped his resilience and deepened his connection to music, which had always been his childhood passion. Starting as a dancer and rapper, he found solace and purpose in rhythm and words.
In June 2025, at 24 years old, Balin was reunited with his family through a trader who worked between South Sudan and Uganda. This emotional reconnection marked a turning point in his journey — a symbol of hope, survival, and rediscovery.
Performing under the name Asheba, Balin channels his life story into his music. The name “Asheba” carries profound meaning — inspired by the Yoruba word “Ase,” which represents spiritual power, authority, and the force that brings change. A Yoruba man from Nigeria once gave him this name, recognizing his quiet strength and inner ability to transform adversity into inspiration.
The “Ba” in Asheba is drawn from his real names, Balin and Babiano, representing his identity and roots. The artist added an “h” in the middle to refine its pronunciation — blending spiritual depth with personal creativity.
Asheba’s style, Afro Piano, blends African rhythms with modern piano-driven melodies, telling stories of pain, hope, and empowerment. Through his artistry, he continues to rise from his past, using his music as a voice for resilience and positive change across Africa and beyond
